Environmental Education

Environmental Education offered by Franklin Soil and Water
Please Contact: Charles Bass, Education Coordinator

Enviroscape Demonstrations:    This is a hands-on demonstration that students can take part in using the Enviroscape model.  We have three models, point/non-point source pollution, wetlands and coastal.

Sand Art:     For younger elementary grades.  Students paint environmentally themed pictures and gain basic knowledge of soils and soil structures.

Environmental Field Days:     5th grade only.  The District sponsors an outdoor classroom once a year.  Each school is set up for a one-day field trip to the Homestead Girl Scout Camp (set up through Dianne Carter at Franklin County Schools).  Classrooms join together and are divided into four separate groups, where they move to different "stations" learning about Wildlife, Soils, Forestry and Water Quality.  Students & teachers bring lunch and the District provides drinks and snacks.

Poster, Essay and Public Speaking Contests:     The theme for these contests change each year.  Information is sent to each school early in the fall.  The poster contest is open to 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students.  The essay contest is open to 6th grade and the public speaking is open to 7th & 8th grade students.  Please contact Cindy Phelps regarding these contests.

Envirothon Competition:    The Envirothon is open to all Middle School and High School students.  Check out the Area 4 Envirothon website.

Video Library:    The District has a large selection of conservation and environmental media that are available for loan to classrooms.

Other Environmental Activities:    The District has a wealth of information and activities at our fingertips.  Many of these activities can be adapted to each classroom situation and grade level.  If you have a specific need please contact us and we will try to accommodate your need.
